EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS
Drawn exclusively from the bequest of sisters Gwendoline and Margaret Davies to National Museum Wales, this exhibition features 47 paintings—many of which are rarely exhibited outside of Wales—and 11 important works on paper. It represents the most important names in 19th-century European painting, including masterpieces by Cézanne, Daumier, Manet, Millet, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, and van Gogh, among others.

ABOUT THE DAVIES SISTERS
Gwendoline (1882–1951) and Margaret (1884–1963) Davies were collecting art during a crucial moment in the history of painting, when European art was undergoing a revolution in style, theme, and technique. Welsh sisters who were grandchildren of a wealthy industrialist, their keen eye, sophisticated taste, and ample resources allowed them to assemble one of the most important collections of European art between 1908 and 1922. Their holdings, now a part of National Museum Wales, feature 260 masterworks by major French and British figures in the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist schools. The works chosen for the exhibition celebrate their outstanding collection and also form a lucid narrative of the story of art from Turner to Cézanne.

CATALOGUE
A major publication providing fresh insight into the story of European art from Turner to Cézanne, the catalogue includes catalogue entries by National Museum Wales curators Bryony Dawkes and Bethany McIntyre and essays by Guest Curator Oliver Fairclough, Keeper of Art, National Museum Wales; Paul Greenhalgh, Director and President of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and Colin B. Bailey, Associate Director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator, The Frick Collection, New York. Published by the American Federation of Arts in association with Hudson Hills Press, the 176-page volume measures 9 by 10 inches and has 91 color and 12 black-and-white illustrations. Softcover copies may be purchased from the AFA (by AFA members only) for $39. The hardcover edition is available for $60 from Hudson Hills Press, your local bookstore, or one of the presenting museums.
